Choosing a Cooking Academy

There are many different cooking academy choices for you to consider if you want to learn additional culinary skills or even start a career in the industry. Your goals in attending a cooking school will make a big difference in where you should study. For example, if you are a hobbyist chef who cooks for family and friends, there are all kinds of short term classes and courses that can teach you a variety of skills. Usually, these are based on a particular type of cooking, like roasting, slow cooking, grilling and pastry preparation.

If you are someone who can see yourself as a professional chef, then you will want to investigate academies that train students for lucrative careers. After graduating from a respected culinary institute, you may be able to find high-paying work at a five star restaurant, cruise ship, resort, hotel or other establishment. You could even open your very own restaurant if this is a goal of yours. There are a handful of extremely renowned cooking schools that serious prospective students should consider. Do your homework and investigate what each school offers before making a decision on where to attend.

Le Cordon Bleu is one of the oldest and best know culinary schools. Although they have roots in French cooking, they teach much more than that. They do instruct on traditional French cooking but they also teach other culinary disciplines as well. For example, they have a fine pastry and dessert program for those who want to specialize in this area. They also offer classes for those who want to learn both the cooking and the business aspect of the restaurant business. Any employer is sure to be impressed by a Le Cordon Bleu graduate.

The Art Institutes located around the country are other places where you can find education of this type. They have the International Culinary School and teach you all kinds of different skills, from preparing appetizers and main courses to making amazing desserts. They also teach business aspects and management so you can have a firm grasp on every part of the culinary business. This allows you to widen your career opportunities. These schools, like Le Cordon Bleu, give you plenty of real-world experience and training in real restaurant kitchens. When selecting the right cooking academy for you, it is important to research your options and have a firm grasp on your aspirations before signing up.
